The Jewish Gospel of Matthew
COURSE PREVIEW
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Most New Testament readers recognize that the Gospel of Matthew presents Yeshua in a very Jewish light. A knowledge of Matthew’s context within first-century Judaism can offer an even richer understanding of the first Gospel. Get ready to go deep into the history and theology of Matthew, as Dr. Schaser walks you through Matthew’s Genealogy, the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ ministry in Galilee and in Jerusalem, and the Messiah’s Passion and Resurrection. Each lecture will show you how skillfully the author presents Jesus as the awaited Messiah of Israel, as well as provide insights into the language and biblical themes that would have been familiar to Matthew’s first readers. You will be amazed as you reexamine the Messiah’s miracles and teachings in light of the rich cultural background of early Judaism.
Student feedback:
“This is my first completed course since joining IBC. Thank you Prof. Schaser for the explanations of the Gospel of Matthew. I have learned so much. It brought me to the self-realization of how much truth and context I did not know about the Bible. I appreciate all the comments as well. I try to read all of them because some of the questions asked are so relevant to the presented materials. I am going to detour studying the Gospel of Mark and study the Psalms. I am very excited. 🙂” – Kimble Leauanae
“Thank you so much for the wonderful insights you have taught regarding the Gospel of Matthew. Your conclusion to this course brought a flood of joy and hope into my life.” – Lila McDougall
