Course Info

To read the New Testament as a Jewish text, one must be familiar with the techniques of Jewish literary traditions. This mini-course challenges students to consider the New Testament as a text communicating genuinely Jewish thoughts and ideas using Jewish linguistic expressions.

Consider the thought-language of the gospels in light of Hebraisms and Aramaisms. Explore the Jewish mystical and apocalyptic ideas of the Second Temple era as a foundation of diverse Jewish thought about God’s nature. Trace the New Testament ideas about God’s abode and Messiah that predate the first century.

I have enjoyed the course that I have taken to this point and will continue with the first certificate program. The various lectures could be a bit longer and go into a bit more depth especially where linguistic issues govern the interpretation of the text. All in all, however, these may be of the best continuing education that I have encountered.

This course has helped me a lot in the details of of what I have always believed but not knowing how to explain why I believe the way I do.
