Course Info

Have you ever wondered where we come from? why we are here? how we should live? what happens after death? what is the relationship between body and soul? These same questions have been asked for thousands of years! Ancient Jews and Greeks discussed, dialogued, and disputed amongst themselves and with each other about all these questions. Their answers still inform and influence us today. They even affect how we read and interpret the Bible.

In this course, you will come alongside a panel of IBC faculty members as they discuss the dynamics of Jewish and Greek thought on life, death, and the afterlife. You will learn about Hades, the Greek realm of the dead, and how Greek-speaking Jews used this term to translate the Hebrew word Sheol. Other topics include the origin of the universe, resurrection in Jewish thought, the Logos, angels, and ongoing consciousness in the afterlife. This course will take you on a journey through Israel’s Scriptures, Homer, Greek philosophy, Jewish apocryphal literature, the Gospels, Paul, Roman history, and more! You will not be disappointed by what you discover.

Knowledge of Greek Myths & History on my part has to be expanded so I could grasp the information presented. It is going to be , I am sure, a challenge to understand. Let us move forward and see what I can absorb.

For audio quality improvement: if there is a way to even out the volume from each speaker because of individual voice and microphone setting, it would spare some viewers continual volume adjustments during a lecture. An excellent course in terms of multicultural, literary, scriptural and even personal (lecturers') contexts. The hermeneutical discipline was exemplary but imaginative.
