Dr. Yitzhaq Feder is a lecturer in the Department of Biblical Studies at the University of Haifa. His recent article, “Coronavirus: What We Can Learn from the Bible and the Ancient Near East,” compares ancient disease and quarantine practices to the current world crisis (2020). Dr. Feder is the author of Blood Expiation in Hittite and Biblical Ritual: Origins, Context and Meaning and the editor of Moral Norm Formation and Transformation in Ancient Israel. In this conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, Dr. Feder discusses concepts of illness, impurity, sin, atonement, sacrifice, and soul as found in the texts of the Torah and their broader historical setting.
