Daniel C. Matt is one of the world’s leading scholars of the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah. After teaching for many years at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, he became the principal editor and translator of the Pritzker edition of the Zohar (12 volumes). His books include The Essential Kabbalah: The Heart of Jewish Mysticism and God and the Big Bang: Discovering Harmony Between Science and Spirituality. In this fascinating conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, Dr. Matt explains key concepts and historical moments in the mystical tradition such as the meaning of Shekhinah, the restorative mourning of Tisha B’Av, and how to understand Jesus as a Jewish mystic.
