Walter Brueggemann (Professor Emeritus, Columbia Theological Seminary) is widely regarded as one of the most influential scholars of the Hebrew Bible active today. In conversation with Prof. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Research Center, Prof. Brueggemann discusses the dynamic relationship between the God and the people of Israel, particularly as expressed through prophetic imagination, pain, and hope. An ordained Protestant minister who has authored popular commentaries on Genesis, Jeremiah, Psalms, and other books, Prof. Brueggemann continually emphasizes the relevance of Biblical themes for the social, political, and economic questions of our own time. His recent books include Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now and Rebuilding the Foundations: Social Relationships in Ancient Scripture and Contemporary Culture (co-authored with his son John).
