Dr. Adele Berlin (Professor Emerita, University of Maryland) is a past president of the Society of Biblical Literature. She has published pathbreaking research on the Hebrew Bible and other literature of the Ancient Near East, including The Dynamics of Biblical Parallelism, Poetics and Interpretation of Biblical Narrative, and commentaries on Esther, Lamentations, and other books of the Bible. She is co-editor (with Marc Brettler) of The Jewish Study Bible and has recently completed her commentary on Song of Songs that will be published as part of the respected Hermeneia series. In this scintillating conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, Dr. Berlin shares her theories on the nature and composition of the Song of Songs as Hellenistic Jewish love poetry.
