The First Commandment: Deuteronomy in the Gospels
COURSE PREVIEW
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Book of Deuteronomy is in many ways the most important book within the Torah of Moses. It is one of three books (together with Psalms and Isaiah) most quoted by New Testament authors. It is also one of the three books found in the Dead Sea Scroll collection in Qumran with the greatest number of individual copies. Together with Prof. Pinchas Shir you will discover never before noticed insights of how the Book of Deuteronomy deals with a number of important New Testament topics and texts.
Together with other students, you will clarify the relationships between 10 commandments and other (603 remaining) commandments. You will discover how Biblical witnesses work within the structure of this most important for Jewish life book, especially what it has to do with two or three Christ-followers coming together (among other things). Most importantly you will make a significant progress in grasping how to think as an Ancient Hebrew, which is crucial for understanding the original messages of both Deuteronomy and the New Testament.
