Course Info
Apocalyptic books, mysteries, heavenly visions, monsters, unseen realms and the end of days often grab people's attention. This course explores the end-time visions of patriarchs, strange creatures, a heavenly city, the tree of life, its fruit and the river of life across biblical and extra-biblical Jewish texts. The understanding of the entire Bible and its rich imagery can be greatly enhanced through the study of ancient imagery and lore sometimes found and clarified in lesser known ancient Jewish writings.
The course assembles a series of interactive discussions and explanations by several of our faculty members: Yeshaya Gruber, Nicholas Schaser, Pinchas Shir, Tupa Guerra, and Carlos Santos Carretero. It is presented in a seminar style and was recorded with a live audience. The professors engage with selected texts from the Bible, Qumran manuscripts, Books of Enoch, Ezra, Baruch, Sefer Eliyahu, Apocalypse of Moses, Apocalypse of Abraham, Mishna, Tosefta, Jerusalem and Babylonian Talmuds, and more.
Instead of a single lecturer, as in most courses, these recordings feature a panel of experts who bring their combined knowledge to reflect on texts as they interact with each other's views and opinions. The participants take questions from the audience as they consider apocalyptic ideas from the past from various vectors. These discussions are highly informative and never disappoint.
About Author
The IBC faculty hold advanced degrees in biblical, linguistic, and/or historical studies and come from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
