Dr. John R. Levison

Guest Scholar

Dr. John (Jack) Levison (Southern Methodist University) is a well-known scholar of the Hebrew Bible, as well as a prolific author and blogger. His many books include The Holy Spirit Before Christianity; A Boundless God: The Spirit According to the Old Testament; and Portraits of Adam in Early Judaism: From Sirach to 2 Baruch. Dr. Levison addresses such fascinating questions as: What is the meaning of Hebrew ruach (spirit/wind/breath) in the context of the Bible? Who is the "agent" of the Lord? Is the "spirit of holiness" the same as the "spirit of YHWH"? Does the Spirit dwell within or rest upon an entire community or within specific individuals? And how are quail and anger connected to God's Spirit?
