Dr. Jacob Wright is Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible at the Candler School of Theology of Emory University. His latest book, Why the Bible Began: An Alternative History of Scripture and its Origins, argues that the Bible exists as an unparalleled achievement in human history precisely due to its response to defeat and destruction.
