"The last three of the plagues — locusts, darkness, and the death of the firstborn — each resonate with literary and religious motifs from the world of ancient Egypt." Dr. Gary A. Rendsburg

Description

Dr. Gary A. Rendsburg, distinguished Professor of Jewish History at Rutgers University, is a leading scholar of the Hebrew Bible. In conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber, Prof. Rendsburg discusses his new book, How the Bible is Written — an exploration of the literary genius permeating these ancient texts of Israel. Covering history and archaeology, literature and language, this wide-ranging dialogue looks at Egyptian sources and the Exodus, Biblical maximalism and minimalism, and why the distinction between Israelite and Judahite dialects provides additional evidence for the reliability of the Bible. Prof. Rendsburg shares a personal perspective on his teacher, the famous Cyrus Gordon, as well as examples from the book they co-authored, The Bible and the Ancient Near East.
